I was under the impression that titanium & tungsten were a stronger metal
withstanding scratches and tarnishing. My boyfriend and I were advised by
our local wholesale jeweler against such metals and that gold would be
easier to maintain (my boyfriend wants the brushed texture band).
We were also told titanium can only be sized for whole and half sizes and
that finding a size 11 1/4 band would be difficult.

Hi Jennifer,
My husband's ring is titanium and it is pretty scratched-up looking........and was, even just a few months after we got married. He joking refers to it as the ring of "tainted love" because it is so beat-up in appearance. I'm sure they could polish it at the local jewelers' but he doesn't want to bother with it. White gold also has its setbacks (my engagement ring and wedding band are white gold) because it needs to be re-plated each year to keep its luster otherwise the metal begins to look yellowish. One of the downsides of tungsten is the heavier feel....
Platinum is much more expensive........ So I guess you have to weight the pros and cons, as there are some for all the metals, and just make the best decision possible. Thankfully most men are much less picky about their wedding rings compared to women, so your man will probably be happier with whatever you put on his finger.
