It's always exciting to get a ring replacement/updgrade!!! You can always turn your previous ring into a pendant or wear it on your other hand.
Are you able to send any pics of the two rings that you are deciding between, so I can see them first-hand? Based on your description, I would probably go with the second choice.....it sounds more distinctive looking than the setting with three round stones....and will thus, stand out more. Also, my personal preference is for platinum over yellow gold, in that it looks more modern.
Both rings sound gorgeous in any event!
