Marriage Proposal Help

: So i am going to propose in the same way that my father proposed to my mother. This was done by placing the engagement ring in the ring finger of a glove and having her try on the gloves. It was genius. As far as i know she has not heard this story from either of my parents. Now the question that i have been toying with is should i do it in front of her family or not. her family every year has a Christmas party to where they all exchange gift to the person who's name they pulled out of a hat months before. Because we didnt get to see each other a lot in high school we made it a practice to exchange gifts during this time. so give her the gloves for a christmas present and wait till she tries them on and notices the ring, or go out for a date night and give them to her just the two of us? thats the big question. Thanks for the 3rd party advise.
