My husband and I (Then fiance) decided to go with Tungsten due to an active lifestyle. My husband works with his hands and was worried about the damage his ring would incur if worn at all times. He shopped around and found an internet company with Tungsten Rings and purchased one of them. It has been 14 months now and his ring still looks like it did the day he purchased it! The site was really informative and said that Tungsten could crack under more severe situations. The company, forevermetals.com, also has a lifetime warranty so we figured we couldn't go wrong....the positives outweigh the negatives!

Safety of Tungsten by: Anonymous
Hi Paul,
There may be some truth to what your sister-in-law is telling you. Tungsten engagement rings are incredibly scratch-resistant, making them excellent choices for individuals with active lifestyles who don't want to remove their rings frequently. On the other hand, that durability can be misleading: unlike softer rings that may bend or warp when subjected to stress, tungsten is more likely to be fractured and is far less able to be repaired. However, I haven't heard anything specifically about cold weather causing fractures in tungsten rings. Your best bet may be to purchase your tungsten ring from a jewelry store that offers a life-long guarantee-- i.e. if there's any damage to the ring, they'll replace or repair it free of charge. Or, you could purchase engagement ring insurance that will provide similar coverage for a yearly charge.
Hope this helps,
